Twisha Sharma Post-Mortem Findings In Bhopal Case
Bhopal: The post-mortem report of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, who died in Bhopal, has confirmed that the cause of death was “antemortem hanging by ligature.” The examination was conducted by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Bhopal.
According to the report, the woman was found hanging from a gymnastic ring rope on the terrace of her residence on May 12 around 10:26 pm and was declared dead shortly after midnight on May 13.
The autopsy recorded multiple simple injuries caused by blunt force trauma across different parts of the body. A double reddish ligature mark was observed on the upper neck region, along with skin changes described as dry, hard and “parchmentized.”
Doctors also noted several signs of asphyxia, including facial congestion, bluish discolouration of ears and fingernails, and petechial haemorrhages in the eye.
Internal examination revealed bruising beneath the ligature mark and congestion in the brain, lungs and stomach lining. The report also mentioned “Tardieu’s spots” in the lungs, commonly associated with asphyxiation cases.
The report stated that the uterus showed signs consistent with recent medical intervention, indicating a Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) conducted about a week before her death. Samples including blood, viscera, nails and hair have been sent for forensic and toxicology analysis.
The case has taken a new turn after allegations made by Twisha’s mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, who claimed that the deceased was addicted to drugs and experienced withdrawal symptoms.
She also stated that Twisha’s behaviour changed after confirming her pregnancy and that she later chose to terminate it. However, these claims have been strongly rejected by the victim’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, who accused the family of character assassination and demanded a second post-mortem and independent investigation.
Bhopal Police have registered a case and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of dowry harassment and mental torture raised by the victim’s family.
Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, married Samarth Singh of Bhopal in December 2025. The incident has sparked a legal and family dispute, with both sides presenting conflicting claims as the investigation continues.
