Bihar Assembly elections 2025 have become a nightmare for RJD as the party struggles with just 24-25 seats. Tejashwi Yadav’s Raghopur seat is under threat, raising doubts about his chances to become Leader of Opposition.
Tejashwi Yadav May Miss Leader of Opposition Post
Patna: The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections are not living up to expectations for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) like in previous years. The party appears headed for its worst performance this time. Tejashwi Yadav may not only abandon his dream of becoming Chief Minister, but also face difficulties in securing the post of Leader of the Opposition.
According to the latest trends, the RJD is leading in only 24-25 seats. A minimum of 25 MLAs are required to become the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly. This means the RJD needs to win 25 seats to secure the post of Leader of the Opposition on its own. If the party remains stuck at 24 seats, Tejashwi Yadav and the RJD will not be able to secure the post.

Tejashwi Yadav's Raghopur seat is also currently in danger. After the 16th round, Tejashwi Yadav is trailing by over 9,000 votes. BJP candidate Satish Kumar is currently leading. This situation is even more worrying for the RJD, as Tejashwi's victory is necessary to become the Leader of the Opposition.
Although the Grand Alliance currently has a total lead of 28 seats, including one seat each for the Congress and the CPI(ML), this lead alone is not enough for the RJD, and if Tejashwi loses his seat, the Leader of the Opposition position will become challenging.
In the 2010 Bihar Assembly elections, the RJD won only 22 seats, despite contesting 168 seats. Even then, the position of Leader of the Opposition was denied to the RJD. This time, the situation appears to be heading towards a repeat of that history.

RJD leader and actor Khesari Yadav also appears to be lagging behind in his seat. After the 7th round, he trails by approximately 2,600 votes. Meanwhile, senior RJD leader Osama Shahab appears to be heading towards victory. After the 14th round, he is ahead by 18,725 votes.
For the RJD, this election is proving to be a battle not only to maintain its influence but also to secure the position of Leader of the Opposition. Tejashwi Yadav's Raghopur seat and the overall number of seats will determine the party's future. Based on history and current trends, this election is proving to be challenging for the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
