Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its first list of candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections. The party has released 71 names. Significantly, nine of these candidates are women.
The BJP has included nine women in the first list, including former Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi. Seven of these women are sitting MLAs.
The 71 candidates nominated in the BJP's first list include Renu Devi from Bettiah, Gayatri Devi from Parihar, Devanti Yadav from Narpatganj, Sweety Singh from Kishanganj, Nisha Singh from Pranpur, Kavita Devi from Koira, Rama Nishad from Aurai, Aruna Devi from Warsaliganj, and Shreyasi Singh from Jamui.
Ajay Nishad's wife given ticket
Rama Nishad, a first-time candidate, has been given a place in the list after former minister and outgoing MLA Ramsurat Rai was denied the ticket from Aurai. Rama Nishad is the wife of former Muzaffarpur MP Ajay Nishad and also served as the Hajipur Chief Councilor.
Sweety Singh, who had lost three consecutive elections, has been re-elected and given the opportunity to contest from Kishanganj. Shreyasi Singh, the outgoing MLA from Jamui, is contesting for the third consecutive time.
Gayatri Devi also given another chance
Outgoing MLA Jaiprakash Yadav's ticket from Narpatganj in Araria district has been denied and former MLA Devanti Yadav has been given the opportunity. Gayatri Devi, the outgoing MLA from Parihar, has been given a second chance.
Nisha Singh, wife of the late former minister Vinod Singh, who won the 2020 assembly elections by a narrow margin and was dedicated to the organization, managed to retain her ticket despite strong opposition in her constituency. The oldest woman leader and outgoing minister Renu Devi has also got the ticket again from Bettiah.
