New Delhi: Singer and composer Adnan Sami has once again sparked discussion with his remarks on being branded a "traitor" by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) after he openly criticised incidents linked to Pakistan. The singer recalled how he responded to the allegations and questioned why he was targeted despite being a musician and entertainer.
Speaking to the media, Adnan Sami said that he had no connection with any confidential information or government matters that could justify such accusations against him.
"Who is a traitor? Have I revealed any confidential information from Pakistan's intelligence? How am I being called a traitor?" Sami questioned while responding to the controversy.
Adnan Sami said that his profession was music and that he had spent his life entertaining audiences. Taking a sharp jibe at the criticism, he recalled that several senior Pakistani military figures had enjoyed his songs during his career.
"I am a singer, composer and an artiste. These Pakistani generals had romanced and danced to my songs," he said.
The singer also spoke about the political narrative surrounding the Kashmir issue and alleged that certain groups continue to use the issue for their own interests.
Born in the United Kingdom to a Pakistani father and Indian mother, Adnan Sami initially moved to India in 2001 on a visitor visa. After years of living and working in India, he became an Indian citizen in 2016.
Since acquiring Indian citizenship, Sami has frequently expressed his views on issues related to Pakistan and cross-border tensions, often drawing reactions from critics across the border.
The controversy intensified after Adnan Sami posted comments following the Pahalgam terror attack, where several people were killed. He condemned the incident and described it as a crime against humanity.
Following his remarks, he faced criticism from sections in Pakistan, with some questioning his loyalty. Responding to such comments, Sami said that people should focus on facts rather than questioning an artist's identity.
Meanwhile, Adnan Sami is also in the spotlight for his latest song "Ishq Tamasha". Talking about the track, the singer said it explores themes of love, heartbreak, hope and emotions that often appear larger than life.
Over the years, Adnan Sami has remained one of the few artists who have maintained a strong connection with both Indian and Pakistani audiences while becoming a prominent figure in India's music industry.
