Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani at WAVES
Mumbai: Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday said India's media and entertainment sector could grow from $28 billion to more than $100 billion in the next decade, calling it not just a cultural force but a "strategic and economic opportunity" that will generate millions of jobs and drive entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the inaugural session of WAVES 2025 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ambani said the fusion of storytelling with modern technologies such as AI and immersive media will place India's creators at the forefront of a global content revolution.
"This is not just a cultural or creative opportunity — it is a strategic and economic opportunity as well," he said, adding that the growth of the sector would create a "ripple effect across industries," with global potential rooted in India's unique digital transformation and cultural depth.
The Reliance Industries Chairman credited Modi's leadership for enabling this convergence of culture, creativity, and commerce. "Under Modi ji's visionary leadership, India has become a front-ranking digital nation," Ambani said, noting that digital tools would amplify the global reach of Indian content across languages, countries, and cultures.
"India's super-talented young creators will rule the global entertainment industry with blockbusters," he said.
The WAVES summit, attended by over 10,000 delegates from 90 countries, was envisioned by the Prime Minister only a few months ago. Ambani lauded Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and his team for turning the vision into reality and positioning India as a global hub of innovation, collaboration, and culture.
He described India's storytelling legacy — from epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata to regional folklore — as a major comparative advantage, saying, "No nation can match India's storytelling power. Let us take our stories globally to heal a divided world."
The Reliance Industries Chairman also made an emotional appeal in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, declaring full support to Prime Minister Modi and the nation’s security forces.
"Modi ji, you have the full support of 145 crore Indians in this fight against the enemies of peace, justice and humanity. Their defeat is certain. India’s victory is also certain," he said.
Pledging to grow WAVES into the world’s foremost entertainment platform with an "Indian soul and a global voice," Ambani concluded: "This is just the beginning. The best is yet to come. Let the stories flow. Let the waves rise. Jai Hind."
