Bengaluru: The news of the death of 87 years old B Saroja Devi has brought a wave of mourning in South Indian cinema. It is being said that she had age-related problems. She was found unconscious at her residence in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. Family members immediately admitted her to a nearby hospital, but doctors confirmed her death after examination, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
B Saroja Devi she worked in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil as well as Hindi films. Apart from Dilip Kumar, she acted with well-known actors in Bollywood. Saroja Devi also got the status of the first superstar in Kannada cinema. Know about the acting journey of this brilliant actress.
B Saroja Devi was born on 7 January 1938 in a middle-class family of Mysore state (today's Bengaluru, Karnataka). Her father was a police officer and mother a housewife. The family motivated Saroja to learn dance. She was not forbidden to go to films. Saroja also took training as a classical dancer. When she was 13 years old, she was singing in a program, then producer Krishnamurthy noticed her. Later, at the age of 17, she got a chance to work in the Kannada film 'Mahakavi Kalidas (1955)', in which she played a supporting role. This film became a hit and Saroja got recognition in the industry.

She also got a chance to work with Raj Kapoor in the film 'Nazrana (1961)', but due to a dispute with director CV Sridhar, she was replaced from the film. Later, Vaijayantimala was cast in place of Saroja Devi in the film.
Saroja Devi continued acting in films even after marriage, she married Sri Harsha in the year 1967, Saroja Devi's husband was an engineer by profession. In the year 2019, she did a cameo in the Kannada film 'Nata Sarvabhuma', became a part of the film as Saroja Devi.
Saroja Devi was also honored for her contribution to cinema. She was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Government of India in the year 2008. She was awarded Padma Bhushan in the year 1992 and Padma Shri in 1969. In the year 1994, Filmfare honored her with the Lifetime Achievement Award (South).
