Aamir Khan has created headline while answering a question at the London Indian Film Festival. He was asked by a reporter to address Wangchuk’s hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. The reporter asked the question with reference of his role of Phunsukh Wangdu (Rancho) in 3 idiots that was directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
Khan responded to the question by saying,” No, that's not true actually. That is a misconception. I didn't know about Mr Sonam at that time when we were doing this film '3 Idiots'... I want to tell you neither Raju nor Abhijat, the writers of the film, nor I. We didn't know about Mr Sonam. However, what Mr Sonam is doing is good work in any case. He doesn't have to be based on the character of '3 Idiots' for us to respect him and the work that he does"
The news about Wangchuk came to spotlight on Tuesday when a video of Omi Vidya who played the role of Chatur in the film 3 idiot came out claiming that Aamir’s role was based on Wangchuk, the actor further urged the peoples to pay attention on the matter and support him.
Aamir Khan also responded on the video at the film fest that Omi Vidya is wrong.

After Aamir Khan’s video went viral over internet, another video featuring Aamir khan went viral on social media. The video is of some event where Sonam Wangchuk is speaking on the stage and Aamir Khan is sitting in the audience. The video also features several public figures and celebrities such as Jawed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi. The video is claimed to be during the Gajni film which was launched before 3 idiots.
