New Delhi: Peddi director Buchi Babu Sana has reacted to the criticism surrounding certain scenes featuring Janhvi Kapoor in the recently released Telugu sports drama starring Ram Charan. Following widespread discussion on social media, the filmmaker clarified that there was never any intention to objectify or disrespect women through the film.
Taking to X, Buchi Babu Sana addressed the controversy and acknowledged the audience feedback regarding specific scenes in the movie.
“As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected,” he wrote.

The director further stated that he has always respected women both on and off screen and expressed regret if any portion of the film was perceived differently by viewers.
Responding to the criticism, Buchi Babu Sana confirmed that the makers have decided to make changes to the concerned scenes in the film.
He said the team reviewed the feedback carefully and recognised the responsibility filmmakers carry while presenting stories to audiences in changing social and cultural environments.
“Every woman deserves to be respected, valued, and represented with dignity,” the director added while thanking viewers for sharing their opinions honestly.
The controversy began after some viewers criticised portions of the film involving Janhvi Kapoor’s character, claiming the scenes appeared uncomfortable and objectifying. The issue quickly gained attention online, sparking debate among audiences and film followers.
While many users appreciated the director’s quick response and willingness to make changes, others continued discussing the portrayal of female characters in commercial cinema.
Peddi is a Telugu sports drama featuring Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, Divyendu Sharma, Shivarajkumar and Jagapathi Babu in prominent roles. The film revolves around a young man who unites his community through sports to fight for their pride against a powerful rival.
The film opened strongly at the box office, earning Rs 51 crore on its first day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Peddi collected Rs 26.90 crore on Day 2, taking its total collection close to the Rs 100 crore mark.
