Mumbai: A film that started with a humble opening has now become one of the biggest cinematic surprises of 2026. Hanuman Ansh has entered the top three highest-grossing Indian films worldwide after crossing Rs 366 crore, leaving several big-budget star films behind.
The devotional drama based on the life and teachings of Neem Karoli Baba has surpassed Yash’s Toxic, Ram Charan’s Peddi and Vijay’s Jana Nayagan at the global box office, creating a rare success story driven by audience connection, word of mouth and emotional storytelling.
Hanuman Ansh’s journey is unlike most blockbuster films. The movie reportedly opened with around Rs 10 lakh on its first day and collected only around Rs 1.48 crore during its first two weeks. At a time when trade experts expected its theatrical run to slow down, the film witnessed a dramatic turnaround.
Strong audience response and positive word of mouth helped the film gain momentum from the third week onwards. The collections jumped from Rs 10.40 crore in Week 3 to Rs 61 crore in Week 4 and a massive Rs 90.25 crore in Week 5. The film continued attracting viewers even after seven weeks in theatres, an unusual trend in the current box office environment.
The biggest headline around Hanuman Ansh is its victory over several star-driven releases. The film crossed Yash’s Toxic, which reportedly earned around Rs 341.99 crore worldwide, and Ram Charan’s Peddi, which recorded around Rs 341.90 crore.
It also moved ahead of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which collected around Rs 325 crore worldwide. The achievement became even more significant because these films arrived with established superstars, large fan bases and bigger production budgets, while Hanuman Ansh built its box office journey gradually.
According to trade estimates, Hanuman Ansh collected Rs 4.90 crore nett in India on Day 47. Its domestic India nett collection has reached Rs 280.93 crore, while the India gross collection stands at around Rs 331.70 crore. With overseas earnings added, the worldwide gross has climbed to Rs 366.45 crore.
The film’s continued earnings in its seventh week have become a major talking point because many big releases usually witness a sharp decline after their initial theatrical window.
The success of Hanuman Ansh highlights the growing influence of content-driven cinema. The film explores the spiritual journey and teachings associated with Neem Karoli Baba, focusing on themes of faith, compassion, service and transformation.
The emotional connect with audiences helped the film build a loyal viewer base. Many viewers continued recommending the film, creating a strong word-of-mouth wave that translated into long-term theatrical performance. Unlike films that depend heavily on opening-day collections, Hanuman Ansh relied on sustained audience interest.
Hanuman Ansh has also sparked a wider discussion about the changing dynamics of Indian cinema. The film reportedly had a comparatively small production scale but managed to compete with major theatrical releases featuring some of the biggest names in Indian cinema.
Its performance shows how audience acceptance, storytelling and emotional appeal can sometimes outweigh traditional box office formulas. The film’s success has become an example of how unexpected titles can dominate conversations when they find the right connection with viewers.
After making its mark globally, Hanuman Ansh now has another milestone ahead in India. Sunny Deol’s Border 2 reportedly has an India nett collection of around Rs 329 crore.
Hanuman Ansh currently stands at Rs 280.93 crore nett domestically and would need a strong final theatrical run to challenge that benchmark. Regardless of the next milestone, the film has already secured its place among the biggest box office stories of 2026.
Directed and written by Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Ansh is inspired by the life and legacy of Neem Karoli Baba. The film stars Shobhinaw Satyaa in the lead role, along with Chandan Anand, Purnima Tiwari, Anil Rastogi and other supporting actors.
Produced by Swambhu Media Network, Ragini S, Namrata G S and Anupriya A Nagar, the film has emerged as a rare example of a low-budget movie achieving blockbuster-level success through strong audience support.
