This week has been full of pride and honour for the Indian film industry. Superstar Kamal Haasan and actor Ayushmann Khurrana have been invited to become members of Hollywood’s prestigious Oscar Academy.

New Delhi: The talent of Indian films and artists has been repeatedly appreciated internationally. Now a new name has been added to this episode: Kamal Haasan and Ayushmann Khurrana, who have been invited by the Oscar Academy to join the new members of 2024, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
This invitation is a great honor for Indian cinema.
Who all were included?
This year 534 new members have been invited, including Kamal Haasan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Payal Kapadia (filmmaker), Smriti Mundhra (documentary maker), Karan Mali (casting director), Maxima Basu (costume designer), and Ranveer Das (cinematographer).
Contribution of Kamal Haasan and Ayushmann
Kamal Haasan has been making multifaceted contributions to Indian cinema for four decades—as an actor, director, singer, producer, and screenwriter. His art and dedication have given a new perspective and direction to the Indian film industry. Along with this, Ayushmann Khurrana has also made a distinct identity in Bollywood.

He has always won the hearts of the audience with his unique and socially issue-based characters. His films have the specialty of depicting the reality of society, which not only entertains the audience but also forces them to think. The selection of both of them is being seen as a global recognition of Indian talent, which further strengthens the international identity and influence of Indian cinema.

How does one get Oscar membership?
Membership of the Oscar Academy is not given on the basis of any application but on the recommendation of existing members and contribution to the film industry. This time the special emphasis was on giving representation to women, minorities, and diverse communities.
If all the members accept the invitation, then by 2025 the total members of the Academy will be 11,120, out of which 10,143 will be eligible to vote.
