California: Australian model and swimwear designer Sahara Ray, who previously dated pop star Justin Bieber, has died at the age of 34. Her cause of death has not been disclosed, according to reports. Ray died on October 18, 2026 with her family reportedly by her side at the hospital.
Her death has drawn attention to her modelling career, personal life and previously disclosed health struggles, including her battle with Guillain-Barré syndrome.
Ray spoke publicly about her experience with Guillain-Barré syndrome in 2024. The rare neurological disorder occurs when the body's immune system attacks the peripheral nerves. She reportedly suffered partial paralysis following a serious car accident.

The condition added to the challenges she had faced in recent years. In December 2021, Ray also revealed that she was seeking professional help for drug and alcohol addiction. She entered a 30-day treatment programme at a rehabilitation centre in Malibu, California.
However, there has been no official confirmation linking these earlier health struggles to her death.
Ray came into the international spotlight in 2016 after photographs of her with Justin Bieber during a trip to Hawaii attracted widespread attention. She was also previously linked to Australian singer Cody Simpson.
Her last known public appearance was in November 2023, when she attended the Ashton Michael RTW 10-Year Anniversary fashion show in Los Angeles alongside musician Mod Sun, whose real name is Derek Ryan Smith. The two were romantically linked at the time.

Ray was also seen with Mod Sun in Malibu in June 2024.
Beyond modelling, Ray founded her own swimwear brand, Sahara Ray Swim. She was the daughter of Australian surfing personality Tony Ray and spent much of her childhood travelling between Australia, California and Hawaii.
Months before her death, Ray welcomed a baby girl. In her last Instagram post, she expressed her love for her daughter, calling her “My whole heart.”
Her death has left questions about the circumstances surrounding her passing, as her cause of death remains undisclosed.
