Kangana Ranaut Approaches Delhi HC, Seeks Removal Of Allegedly Fake And Obscene Content (Img: Instagram)
New Delhi: BJP member and actor Kangana Ranaut has approached the Delhi High Court seeking the removal of allegedly obscene and AI-generated content circulating online in her name. She has sought protection of her personality and publicity rights, alleging that such material harms her reputation and falsely represents her.
The matter was heard by Justice Vikas Mahajan, who issued summons to the parties named in Ranaut’s lawsuit. The court also issued notice on her application seeking interim relief and indicated that an interim order would be passed.
During the hearing, Ranaut’s lawyer raised objections to obscene and fake material allegedly linked to the actor-politician. The legal team also pointed to fake news and AI-generated posts that purportedly attribute statements to Ranaut that she never made.
According to the submissions, some of the material has been digitally created and does not depict any genuine photograph or statement by Ranaut. Her counsel clarified that the plea, at this stage, is focused on obscene and allegedly false content.
The lawyer also told the court that Ranaut was not seeking relief against memes or satirical content as part of the present interim application.
The court asked Ranaut’s counsel to provide the names of the defendants against whom takedown directions were being sought. The interim application is expected to be considered further, with the suit listed for the next hearing in February 2027.
Ranaut’s case comes amid a growing number of personality-rights lawsuits involving celebrities and AI-generated material. She is not the first public figure to approach the court over the alleged misuse of their name, image, likeness and other identifiable attributes. Several public figures, including Vijay Deverakonda, have approached the Delhi High Court over the unauthorised use of their names, images, likenesses and other personality attributes.
The court has previously granted interim protection in cases involving celebrities, including actor and BJP leader Ravi Kishan, where alleged AI-generated and obscene material was among the content challenged before the court.
