‘Neither Gauri, Kiran Nor Reena Converted’: Aamir Khan responds to ‘love jihad’ allegations

Aamir Khan has dismissed 'love jihad' allegations, saying none of his wives- Reena Dutta, Kiran Rao or Gauri Spratt converted their religion and that all his marriages were civil marriages.

New Delhi: Actor Aamir Khan has responded to allegations branding him the "brand ambassador of love jihad", firmly denying the claims and stating that none of his former wives- Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao or his current wife, Gauri Spratt, ever converted their religion.

In an interview with Rediff, Aamir said that faith has never been a deciding factor in his personal relationships. He explained that all of his marriages were civil marriages and that there was never any expectation for his partners to change their religious beliefs.

'Religion was never a condition'

Speaking about the controversy, Aamir said his family has a long history of interfaith marriages and believes in accepting people beyond religious boundaries.

He pointed out that both his sisters are married to Hindu men, his daughter is married to a Hindu, and his cousin Mansoor Khan is married to a Christian. According to the actor, these relationships reflect his family's inclusive outlook.

Aamir further clarified that neither Reena Dutta, Kiran Rao nor Gauri Spratt converted their religion after marrying him. He also revealed that Gauri is a Christian and not a practising one. Emphasising that his marriages were conducted under civil law, Aamir dismissed the allegations as baseless, adding that life "is getting more comical as time passes."

Aamir and Gauri tied the knot on July 5

Aamir Khan married Gauri Spratt in an intimate ceremony at his Mumbai residence on July 5. The wedding was attended by close family members and friends.

Recently, a video from the celebrations surfaced on social media, showing the couple sharing their first dance as husband and wife. In another emotional moment from the ceremony, Gauri was heard taking her wedding vow, calling Aamir her "protector" and "shelter."

Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002 and later to filmmaker Kiran Rao from 2005 until their separation in 2021. Despite their separation, the actor continues to maintain cordial relationships with both his former wives.
