Mumbai: Actor and comedian Rajpal Yadav is making headlines in connection with Akshay Kumar's film, Bhoot Bangla. Amidst this, a recent incident that occurred during an awards ceremony has sparked controversy on social media. Renowned comedian Zakir Khan and journalist Saurabh Dwivedi were present at the event, serving as hosts.
During the program, while discussing the fluctuating status of the dollar versus the rupee, the hosts jokingly remarked to Rajpal Yadav: "No matter how much the dollar or the rupee rises or falls, you still have to repay the exact amount of debt that remains outstanding." Rajpal Yadav responded to this comment on stage with a laugh and did not express any form of displeasure.
However, this remark incensed Rajpal Yadav's fans on social media. Many users perceived it as an act of mocking the actor and began criticizing both hosts. In no time, the matter went viral and became a subject of intense debate. Fans felt that making comments about an actor's personal financial struggles on a public platform was inappropriate. Observing the escalating situation, Rajpal Yadav himself stepped forward on Tuesday to clarify the matter. Sharing a post on social media, he appealed to his fans not to blow this issue out of proportion unnecessarily.
He wrote that the world is already grappling with numerous major challenges—such as wars and economic volatility—and that the common man is inevitably affected by them. It was within this context, he explained, that the humorous script was crafted—a script that is now being misinterpreted.
In his post, Rajpal Yadav came out in support of Zakir Khan and Saurabh Dwivedi, describing them as his "close friends" and "younger brothers." He stated that both individuals have always treated him with respect, and that it is unfair to speak negatively against them. Making an appeal to his fans, he wrote, "Do not hurt their feelings. If their hearts ache, then my heart will ache as well." Following this statement by Rajpal, Zakir Khan and Saurabh Dwivedi also responded, expressing their gratitude to him.
It is worth noting that Rajpal Yadav is currently making headlines in connection with a cheque bounce case. This matter came to light after he was unable to repay a loan taken for film production. He recently surrendered at Tihar Jail, although he was subsequently granted interim bail. A hearing regarding this case was held in the High Court on April 2, where the court has currently reserved its verdict. The actor has also received support from several film stars during this difficult time.
