New Delhi: Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi is preparing to step back into the horror space with Rooh, a new musical horror film planned for a theatrical release in 2027. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, making it a pan-India project aimed at a wider audience across multiple cinema markets when it opens worldwide.

First Look Builds Mystery

The makers officially announced Rooh with a chilling first-look glimpse, giving viewers an early sense of the film’s dark and atmospheric world. The teaser opens with the line, “When a legend revisits the darkness, a nightmare is born,” before moving into unsettling visuals of a burning forest and a body levitating in the air.

Another striking moment shows a hand clearing frost from a glass surface, slowly revealing Emraan Hashmi’s intense eyes behind it. The glimpse also hints at the film’s musical tone, suggesting that sound and emotion will play an important role in the storytelling.

Emraan Back In A Familiar Genre

Rooh has drawn attention because of Emraan Hashmi’s strong connection with horror films in Bollywood. The actor has earlier been part of popular titles such as Raaz: The Mystery Continues, Raaz 3, Raaz Reboot and Ek Thi Daayan. His return to the genre is being seen as a major highlight of the project.

Team Behind Rooh

The film is directed by Mayank Sharma, best known for creating the Prime Video series Breathe. Sharma has also co-written the film with Vishal Kapoor, who has worked on horror projects such as Lapachhapi and Chhorii. Rooh is produced by Vikram Khakhar and Sunny Khanna under Vicked Films.

A Blend Of Fear, Music And Emotion

Described as a high-concept musical horror film, Rooh is expected to combine fear, emotion and music rather than follow a conventional horror formula. Emraan Hashmi said the project appealed to him because it brings together new-age horror, emotional depth and a strong musical element.

With its eerie first look, theatrical scale and Emraan’s return to a genre closely associated with him, Rooh has already positioned itself as one of the notable horror releases to watch out for in 2027.
