Rhea Chakraborty Claims Father Lost Job Over Sushant Singh Rajput Case (Img: X)
New Delhi: Actor Rhea Chakraborty has spoken about the difficult phase her family went through following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020. Rhea revealed that the controversy surrounding the case affected not only her career but also her father’s professional life.
In an appearance on filmmaker Farah Khan’s YouTube vlog, Rhea introduced her father, retired Army officer and former medical administrator Dr Indrajit Chakraborty, and recalled how the public backlash impacted her family.
Rhea said her father had secured a senior position as a medical superintendent at a reputed hospital but allegedly lost the opportunity after people discovered his connection with her.
“Papa got a very big job as a medical superintendent at a very big hospital in town… and then they found out his surname and said, ‘Sorry, aap Rhea Chakraborty ho toh (You are Rhea Chakraborty’s father so you cannot work here),’” she said.
The actor said the controversy created immense challenges for her family, who faced intense public scrutiny during the investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case earlier this year, providing relief to Rhea Chakraborty after years of allegations and investigations.
Rhea and her brother Showik Chakraborty were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drug-related case linked to the investigation. The actor has previously spoken about the emotional toll of the case, saying the period affected her mental health.
Rhea Chakraborty is currently appearing in the second season of reality show “The Traitors”, where she has been discussing her personal journey and the challenges she faced after the controversy.
Recently, she was also involved in a discussion with fellow contestant Mallika Sherawat, who referred to her jail period during an argument on the show. Rhea reportedly said such remarks felt personal and were different from normal criticism.
The actor has since been attempting to rebuild her career and move forward after one of the most controversial chapters of her life.
