Ottawa: Several casualties were reported after a SUV drove into a crowd at Lapu Lapu street festival in Vancouver on Saturday evening, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Besides, multiple people have been injured in the accident.

The attack took place at the street festival at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser just after 8 PM on Saturday.

The driver is in police custody. The further investigation into the tragic incident which killed several people and injured a number of others is underway.

'Vancouver Police investigates mass casualty incident at neighbourhood block party.

'A suspect has been arrested by Vancouver Police after several people were killed and multiple others injured at a neighbourhood street party in South Vancouver earlier tonight.

'At approximately 8:14 p.m. on April 26, a man drove into a large crowd of people attending the Lapu Lapu Day Festival near East 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street.

'A 30-year-old suspect, a Vancouver man, was arrested at the scene.

'The investigation is ongoing and is being led the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Section.

'Anyone with information is asked to call 604-717-2500.'

Lapu Lapu Festival

The Lapu-Lapu Day Block Party in Vancouver is a street festival celebrating Filipino culture and honoring Datu Lapu-Lapu, the Philippines’ first national hero, an Indigenous Visayan chieftain who led the victory against Spanish colonizers in the 1521 Battle of Mactan.
Recognized officially by British Columbia as Lapu-Lapu Day on April 27 since 2023, the event is organized by Filipino BC and the Sunset on Fraser Business Association in South Vancouver’s Sunset neighborhood, a culturally diverse area.

The Lapu Lapu event is held at the John Oliver Secondary (East 41st Avenue) to East 49th Avenue, in the back parking lots west of Fraser Street, Vancouver.
