New Delhi: The Centre had on Saturday said that it had 'no role to play' in the press conference by Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi here in New Delhi on Friday where Women journalists were not allowed.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) asserted that only select journalists were invited from Afghanistan Consul General for the event in the Embassy. The Afghan Embassy complex does not come under the jurisdiction of the Indian Government.

Rahul Gandhi took to X and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “silence” on the same. He wrote, 'Mr Modi, when you allow the exclusion of women journalists from a public forum, you are telling every woman in India that you are too weak to stand up for them.'
