New Delhi: In a statement delivered at the Pentagon, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that American forces deployed in West Asia are fully prepared. If Iran does not agree to a peace settlement, the United States may resume military action.
He further added that Iran faces two paths: it can either choose the "golden opportunity for peace and development" or it will have to face a blockade and attacks.
According to reports, the U.S. and its military officials have indicated that:
This blockade could also extend to maritime routes; specifically, the inspection and interdiction of vessels within international waters is a possibility.
The objective behind the U.S. statement is reportedly to exert pressure on Iran, compelling it to agree to a diplomatic settlement. This is being viewed as a form of "pressure policy," encompassing both economic and military forms of coercion.
The U.S. military leadership asserts that if Iran chooses the wrong path, its energy sector, power grid, and infrastructure could sustain damage.
If such a scenario were to actually unfold:
This region is already considered highly volatile; therefore, any military tension could have repercussions visible on a global scale. This statement is regarded as a very stern diplomatic and military message.
It clearly signals that the United States is keeping its military options at the ready in order to intensify pressure on Iran. However, the ultimate outcome will depend on whether both nations pursue a diplomatic path or if the confrontation escalates.
