New Delhi: Elon Musk’s company Starlink is about to enter in India to launch satellite internet, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Starlink has got an important license from the Ministry of Telecommunications. Getting this license is being considered a big achievement for Starlink. Starlink will be the third company in India to get a satcom license from the Ministry of Telecommunications.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said earlier on Thursday, that Starlink satcom license can be given soon, the process is going on for this. Starlink satellite connectivity is like another flower in the bouquet of telecom.

He further said, “along with mobile connectivity, we also have optical fiber connectivity, but satellite connectivity is very important in remote areas where wired connections cannot reach easily.”

High-Speed Internet

Sources in the Department of Telecommunications have confirmed that Starlink has received the license and said that they will be provided with the test spectrum within 15-20 days of applying.

Starlink has got the green signal to launch broadband and satellite internet services in India. This approval can help in delivering high-speed internet to rural and remote areas of India.

The Third Company

Starlink has become the third company to get the license from the Department of Telecommunications of India. It is worth noting here that Starlink and the Department of Telecommunications did not immediately respond to the request for comment.

Starlink is the third company to get a license from the Department of Telecommunications of India, which has approved similar applications of Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio to provide services in the country.

Sought License In 2022

Starlink was looking for a way to enter India since the year 2022. Applications had also been made for its license. However, now Starlink has been able to get the license in this regard. Apart form that Amazon’s Kuiper is also waiting to come to India.

TRAI Recommendation

TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has recommended administrative allocation of spectrum for satcom companies, but DoT has not yet approved these recommendations. TRAI has also recommended that satcom companies be charged 4% of AGR (Adjusted Gross Revenue). Now Starlink is waiting for spectrum approval to launch its services in India. If TRAI’s recommendations are approved, Starlink can soon launch its satellite internet services in India.
