Iran Sets Fresh Conditions To Reopen Strait of Hormuz (Img: X)
New Delhi: Iran has announced a fresh set of conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global trade route that has become a major flashpoint amid the ongoing conflict with the United States.
Tehran has made it clear that the waterway will not be reopened until Washington “corrects its behaviour” and addresses Iran’s concerns.
The demands were issued by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and released through state media. The statement was issued by council secretary Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, who is also a commander in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
Iran has demanded that the United States must stop threatening Tehran, permanently end the conflict with Iran and its regional allies, and withdraw American military forces from the region.
Other major demands include lifting the naval blockade on Iranian ports, removing sanctions, releasing frozen Iranian assets without conditions and providing “full compensation” for war-related damages.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, with nearly 20 per cent of global oil trade passing through the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman.
Any prolonged closure could create uncertainty in international energy markets and raise concerns over fuel supplies worldwide.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was close to reaching an agreement with Oman regarding navigation through the strait. However, he added that reopening the waterway would depend on meeting additional conditions. Oman confirmed that discussions were continuing in a “positive and constructive atmosphere.”

The crisis intensified after the United Arab Emirates reported an attack on a vessel owned by ADNOC while travelling through the Strait of Hormuz. The company said there were no casualties, but claimed several ships had been targeted since the beginning of the US-Iran conflict.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance said negotiations were progressing but warned that any final arrangement must satisfy Washington’s requirements for safe maritime movement.
