Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to help bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, saying the Indian leader has “good ideas” for finding a mutually acceptable solution.
Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club forum, Putin said Modi has consistently raised the issue of ending the Ukraine conflict despite India’s close and friendly relationship with Russia.

According to Putin, Modi has shown a strong interest in finding a peaceful way forward and has encouraged discussions aimed at resolving the conflict.
Putin said Modi’s position remains neutral while being focused on bringing the war to an end. He also thanked the Prime Minister for his efforts and his support for resolving the conflict through dialogue.
New Delhi has repeatedly maintained that dialogue and diplomacy are essential to resolving the Russia-Ukraine war. Modi has also highlighted India’s relations with both Moscow and Kyiv as a factor that could allow New Delhi to contribute to peace efforts.
In an earlier interaction with Japanese publication The Yomiuri Shimbun, Modi said India had maintained a principled and humanitarian approach to the conflict. He also reiterated India’s willingness to support meaningful efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution.
Modi and Putin have continued discussions on the Ukraine conflict alongside wider India-Russia ties. Their recent meetings have also covered cooperation in areas including trade, energy, infrastructure, technology, defence and culture.
Putin’s latest comments underline Moscow’s acknowledgement of Modi’s continued emphasis on dialogue and a negotiated settlement as the conflict continues.
