New Delhi: Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan was taken back to Adiala Jail on Friday, hours after being shifted to a private hospital in Islamabad for a medical checkup.

The development came amid ongoing concerns over his health and a legal dispute between the government and Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Supreme Court Order Led to Hospital Transfer

Khan was moved from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital following a Supreme Court order directing authorities to provide him medical treatment at the private facility. PTI spokesperson Zulfi Bukhari confirmed that the court’s order had been followed.

The 73-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician has been imprisoned since 2023 in connection with multiple cases. His supporters have repeatedly raised concerns about his health conditions inside the jail.

Pakistan Government Challenges Court Decision

The Pakistani government has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court, seeking reconsideration of the order that allowed Khan’s transfer to a private hospital.

Government officials argued that the relief granted to Khan was not according to legal procedures. Meanwhile, PTI leaders have demanded that the government withdraw its petition and ensure proper medical care for their party chief.

PTI Supporters Gather Outside Hospital

The brief hospital visit came after several unverified reports circulated on social media regarding Khan’s condition. His supporters gathered outside Shifa International Hospital and expressed relief after seeing confirmation that he was alive and receiving medical attention.

Imran Khan’s Legal Battle Continues

Imran Khan, who served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2018 to 2022, was removed from office after losing a no-confidence vote. Since then, he has faced several legal cases, which PTI describes as politically motivated.

The latest development has once again intensified the political confrontation between Khan’s supporters and Pakistan’s ruling authorities.
