Lahore: Police arrested Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, from her home in Lahore. On Sunday, she was arrested ahead of a nationwide protest march planned by Imran Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on September 27.
Pakistan authorities have begun tightening security in Islamabad ahead of the September 27 protest. Police have increased surveillance and intelligence gathering across the capital.
PTI is demanding the release of Imran Khan and demonstration is organised to mobilise people and supports of former Prime Minister, who is in prison since August 2023. Aleema was arrested as preparations continued for the protest march organised by the PTI.
Security officials held a meeting at the Central Police Office in Islamabad to review preparations and formulate measures aimed at preventing any disruption during the demonstration, according to the report.
Authorities are also monitoring preparations by PTI leaders, workers and supporters and gathering information about activities linked to the planned protest.
Imran Khan has been imprisoned for more than three years, according to News-1. His family, including his two sons, have repeatedly expressed concern over his health.
They have also alleged a conspiracy involving Pakistan's de facto leader and military chief Asim Munir. The allegations have been made by Khan's family and are not independently established in the information provided.
The September 27 mobilisation comes as PTI continues to press for Khan's release while authorities prepare security measures in Islamabad and monitor the party's activities.
