New Delhi: In the final of the Asia Cup 2025, India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets to win the tournament. Pakistan, batting first, scored 146 runs in 20 overs. In response, India achieved the target of 147 runs in the 20th over, losing 5 wickets. With this victory, Team India became the Asia Cup champions.

India refused to accept the trophy

After winning the match, everyone expected Team India to be presented with the trophy. But that did not happen. Team India refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy because the person presenting the trophy was Mohsin Naqvi—who is not only the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), but also the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Interior Minister in the Pakistani government.

Political relations between India and Pakistan are tense, and the Indian team did not consider it appropriate to accept the trophy from a Pakistani minister.

BCCI files objection, issues warning

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had previously requested the ACC to have the trophy delivered by the Vice President of the Emirates Cricket Board instead of Mohsin Naqvi. However, the ACC ignored this request. Naqvi then took the trophy and went straight to his hotel, refusing to hand it over to the Indian team.

The BCCI described this behavior as "intolerable" and issued a warning to Mohsin Naqvi. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia stated that Naqvi should correct his mistake and hand over the trophy to India as soon as possible.

Time until November, or else file a complaint with the ICC

The BCCI has clearly stated that if India does not receive the trophy by October, it will lodge an official complaint at the ICC conference in Dubai in November. This means Mohsin Naqvi has less than a month left to return the trophy.

Team India brought glory to the country by winning the Asia Cup, but Pakistani Minister Mohsin Naqvi prevented the team from receiving the trophy. The BCCI has taken a tough stance on this matter, warning of international action if the trophy is not returned. It remains to be seen whether Naqvi returns the trophy.
