Trump Demands Compensation For Decades Of Attacks From Iran (Img: X)
New Delhi: The tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated further after US President Donald Trump demanded compensation from Tehran for deaths and injuries linked to attacks and conflicts over several decades.
Trump’s statement came after Iran itself sought compensation from Washington as part of its conditions for reaching any agreement related to ending the conflict and reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump called Iran’s compensation demand an “interesting idea” and said he would now seek compensation from Tehran. He accused Iran of being responsible for deaths and injuries caused by roadside bombings, military conflicts and attacks involving Iranian-backed groups.
Trump said future negotiations with Iran must include compensation for those affected by what he described as Tehran’s actions.
Trump specifically referred to the 2000 USS Cole bombing, in which 17 US sailors were killed, while also mentioning other casualties from conflicts involving Iran and its allies.
He also demanded compensation for families of protesters who he alleged were killed by the Iranian government over the past five decades. Trump further claimed that around 52,000 people were killed during the recent five-month conflict, though he did not provide additional details or evidence in his statement.
The latest dispute follows Iran’s demand for compensation over war damage as a condition for fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a major global shipping route.
Iran has also called for the lifting of sanctions, release of frozen assets, an end to military pressure and guarantees against further attacks. Iranian officials have warned that the waterway will remain restricted until Washington accepts Tehran’s demands.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said talks with Oman regarding alternative arrangements around the Strait of Hormuz were progressing, but stressed that reopening the waterway would depend on meeting Iran’s conditions.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials have rejected US criticism, arguing that Washington has no moral or legal authority to demand the reopening of the strait while maintaining pressure on Tehran.
The compensation issue has now become another major hurdle in already complicated US-Iran relations. With sanctions, military threats, nuclear concerns and the Strait of Hormuz crisis involved, any future negotiations between the two countries are expected to remain challenging.
