Iran has warned it will target energy facilities linked to US companies if its oil infrastructure is attacked. The threat follows a US strike on Kharg Island, escalating tensions and raising fears of wider conflict around the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

New Delhi: Abbas Araghchi has warned that Iran will target energy facilities linked to United States companies in the region if Iranian oil and gas infrastructure is attacked during the ongoing conflict.
The warning came after the US military carried out a strike on Kharg Island, the location from which most of Iran’s oil exports are shipped.
Donald Trump said the strikes destroyed military targets on the island but claimed that energy facilities were deliberately spared.
Araghchi said Iranian armed forces are ready to retaliate if the country’s oil and energy infrastructure is targeted. He warned that Iran could strike any energy facility in the region owned by American companies or companies with US investments.
The Iranian foreign minister also claimed that the US attack used short-range rockets launched from military bases in the United Arab Emirates, including one near Dubai. He criticised the use of areas close to civilian populations for military operations.
Despite the warning of retaliation, Araghchi said Iran would act carefully and try not to hit densely populated areas during any response.
The conflict has also raised tensions around the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Trump earlier warned that the US could bomb Iranian oil infrastructure if Tehran blocks free passage of oil tankers through the crucial global shipping route.
