Trump Issues Fresh Warning As Iran-Oman Reach Hormuz Route Deal (Img: X)
New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has once again issued a strong warning against Iran’s nuclear ambitions, saying Tehran must never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon “in any way, shape, or form.” His remarks came at a time when Iran and Oman announced an agreement on transit routes through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The developments came as the 60-day negotiation period aimed at finding a possible peace agreement between the United States and Iran reached its deadline. However, both sides remain far apart, with no immediate announcement of an extension or major breakthrough.
Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons remains his top priority.
“The number one goal is, and always will be, that Iran cannot have, in any way, shape, or form, a nuclear weapon,” Trump wrote.
The US has repeatedly maintained that Iran’s nuclear programme poses a security threat, while Tehran insists its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes.
Meanwhile, Iran announced that it has reached an understanding with Oman regarding transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping corridors.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that an agreement had been reached on the route map, while discussions are continuing to finalise a broader package that includes the transit arrangement and a joint statement.
“An understanding has been reached regarding the map of the transit route. But we had planned, and still plan, to finalise the understanding in the form of a package: The map plus a joint statement,” Baghaei said.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is a crucial passage for global energy shipments. Any disruption in the region can impact international oil markets and shipping routes.
Reports suggest that under the proposed arrangement, ships may enter through a route closer to Iran and exit through a route near Oman. During the interim period, vessels may not be required to pay additional transit fees.
Washington has been pushing for a resolution over access through the strait before considering any changes to measures imposed on Iran’s ports.
However, it remains unclear whether the Iran-Oman understanding will satisfy US demands or lead to broader diplomatic progress.
The latest developments highlight the fragile balance between rising tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and efforts to maintain stability in one of the world’s most critical maritime routes.
