Washington: White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down from her position later this month, US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday. Leavitt described the decision as “bittersweet” and said she wants to dedicate more time to her family.
Leavitt has served as the White House press secretary since Trump returned to office in 2025, becoming the youngest person ever to hold the high-profile position.
According to US President Trump and Leavitt’s statements, the decision to leave the role was driven by her desire to spend more time with her children.
Leavitt recently welcomed her second child and said balancing motherhood with one of the world’s most demanding jobs had been both a rewarding and challenging experience.
She said she felt she could not give her two young children the time and attention they deserved while continuing in the demanding role of White House press secretary.
President Donald Trump praised Leavitt’s performance, calling her a “real leader” and saying she had done a “phenomenal job” during her time at the White House.
Trump said Leavitt would continue to remain connected with his political circle as one of his outside advisers and would serve as an influential voice within the Republican Party.

However, Trump has not yet announced her replacement for the press secretary position.
Leavitt became the youngest White House press secretary after joining the Trump administration in 2025. Before taking the role, she worked as a spokesperson during Trump’s first term and later served as a key communication figure during his 2024 presidential campaign.
In 2022, she also contested the US House election from New Hampshire but was unsuccessful.
