Washington: US President Donald Trump has renewed allegations that China interfered in the 2020 US presidential election, claiming Beijing carried out what he described as the "largest compromise of election data in history."
He also directed the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to investigate the alleged incident. The latest claims revive a long-running dispute over the 2020 election, which was won by former President Joe Biden.
Speaking at the White House on Thursday, Trump alleged that the People's Republic of China gained access to approximately 220 million US voter files during the 2020 election cycle.

He said the incident represented an unprecedented threat to US election security and announced that documents related to the alleged breach would be declassified.
Trump also accused members of the US intelligence community of suppressing information regarding China's alleged activities during the election.
Trump's remarks come despite an earlier assessment by US intelligence agencies, which concluded that there was no credible evidence that any foreign government manipulated election infrastructure or altered vote counts during the 2020 presidential election.
The assessment had stated that investigations into claims of foreign control over election systems did not substantiate allegations of vote manipulation.

Since losing the 2020 election, Trump and his allies have filed more than 60 legal challenges, none of which established evidence of widespread election fraud that changed the outcome.
Responding to Trump's latest claims, Liu Chang, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy, rejected the accusations, stating that China has never interfered and will never interfere in US presidential elections.
Meanwhile, CIA Director John Ratcliffe said intelligence documents related to China's alleged activities would be made public following their declassification. He said the documents deserved public scrutiny and stressed the importance of protecting the integrity of US elections.
