New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he has spoken with US President Donald Trump. Trump believes that the military actions undertaken thus far could be leveraged into an agreement that would safeguard Israel's interests.
Netanyahu stated unequivocally that Israel will defend its interests under any circumstances. He noted that Israel is continuing to carry out strikes in both Iran and Lebanon.
Netanyahu claims that these strikes have significantly weakened Iran's missile and nuclear programs. Furthermore, the Iran-backed organization Hezbollah has also suffered heavy losses.
He also asserted that two Iranian nuclear scientists were recently killed, and that this campaign of action has not yet concluded.
Amidst these statements, Trump signaled that discussions with Iran are underway and that efforts to resolve the situation are ongoing. He described the exchanges as "good talks."
Trump had previously issued an ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz; however, he has now kept the door open for dialogue by opting to hold off on further attacks.
Conversely, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has categorically denied that any negotiations are taking place. This makes the situation appear even more complex.
On one hand, conflict persists; on the other, diplomatic efforts are underway. It is evident that the situation is extremely delicate, and a major decision could be reached in the coming days.
