Islamabad: Pakistan seems to be heading towards a new political crisis these days. Discussions about change of power and imposition of President's rule in place of the country's current parliamentary system are gaining momentum.

Especially the meetings between Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari and Army Chief General Asim Munir have fueled these speculations even more.

What is going to happen in Pakistan?

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif first met President Zardari and then Army Chief Asim Munir. These meetings took place at a time when Pakistan's economy is in shambles and internal instability is also increasing.

After these meetings, there is a discussion on social media and Pakistani media that General Asim Munir can be made President by removing Asif Ali Zardari.

Not only this, it is also being claimed in the reports that a major change can be made in the country's governance system by bringing the 27th constitutional amendment in Pakistan. There is a lot of discussion about replacing the parliamentary system with the presidential system.

Government denies, army is not interested in politics

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has issued a statement to clarify all these speculations. He said, "There is nothing unusual in these meetings. The Prime Minister, President and Army Chief meet regularly two-three times a week and discuss national issues."

He also said that Asim Munir is a senior military officer and he has no interest in politics. He is already in the highest military post and he does not need any other role."

However, Khawaja Asif admitted that amendment to the Constitution is a legitimate legislative process and if needed in the future, the 27th amendment can be made, as many amendments have been made before.

Restlessness among the public and the opposition

All these activities are increasing restlessness among the people of Pakistan and the opposition. Opposition parties believe that the army has always had a role behind the power and now once again the country is being pushed towards direct military control or President's rule.
