New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome created another viral “Melodi” moment after he gifted her packets of ‘Melody’ chocolates during his official visit to Italy.

The light-hearted gesture quickly caught attention online after Meloni shared a video on social media thanking PM Modi for the gift. In the clip, the Italian leader could be heard saying, “Prime Minister Modi brought as a gift, a very, very good toffee- Melody.”

The video instantly went viral, with social media users linking the chocolate brand to the popular “Melodi” nickname coined from the surnames Modi and Meloni.

Warm Welcome Marks Final Leg of PM Modi’s Tour

Italy is the final destination of PM Modi’s five-nation diplomatic tour, which also included visits to the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway.

Meloni welcomed the Indian Prime Minister warmly upon his arrival in Rome. Earlier, she had shared a candid photograph with PM Modi on X, writing, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!”

The two leaders later held a dinner meeting and took an evening walk around the iconic Colosseum, one of Italy’s most recognised landmarks.

Viral Images Highlight Growing India-Italy Bond

Several photographs and videos from the Rome visit have gone viral online. Images showed PM Modi and Meloni walking together inside the illuminated Colosseum and sharing conversations while overlooking the Rome skyline.

Social media users also highlighted what many called “car diplomacy” after videos surfaced of the two leaders travelling together through Rome’s streets before their visit to the historic site.

Focus on Strategic Cooperation

Beyond the viral moments, the visit also focused on strengthening India-Italy relations under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029.

The partnership aims to deepen cooperation in sectors including trade, defence, clean energy, technology and connectivity projects like the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

During his stay in Rome, PM Modi also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora and viewed artworks inspired by Indian culture and Varanasi by Italian artist Giampaolo Tomassetti.
