Russia Declares Temporary Ceasefire in Ukraine
Moscow: The situation in the Russia-Ukraine war has once again taken a new turn. Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary 32-hour ceasefire in Ukraine. This ceasefire will be implemented during Orthodox Easter, raising hopes of a brief respite from the fighting.
According to the Kremlin, this ceasefire will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday and continue until the end of Sunday. Military activities have been halted on all fronts during this period. This move comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed for a halt to attacks during Easter, especially on energy infrastructure.

However, questions are being raised about this ceasefire as to whether it is truly a step towards peace or a strategic move. While Russia has claimed a complete halt to military operations, it has also instructed its troops to be prepared to respond in the event of any provocation.
The Kremlin has expressed hope that Ukraine will also abide by this ceasefire. However, at the time of writing, there was no official response from Kyiv. Therefore, it will be important to see how seriously both sides take this temporary pause.
This is not the first time a ceasefire has been announced during a holiday. Last year, a 30-hour ceasefire was implemented during Easter, but it did not last long. Both countries accused each other of violating the agreement.
Russia-Ukraine War: Nearly 2 million soldiers killed or injured since 2022
The war between Russia and Ukraine continues along an approximately 800-mile front, and neither side has yet gained a decisive advantage. Despite Western mediation, peace talks have made no significant progress. The United States and Ukraine proposed a 30-day ceasefire, which Russia rejected.
It's unclear how effective this 32-hour ceasefire will be. Given past experiences, there are fears that even this pause may not last long. Nevertheless, this move has certainly raised hopes for peace amid the war.
