Tehran: Five Indian nationals were safely rescued after a Kuwait-flagged crude oil tanker was struck by a projectile while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The Indians were aboard the MT Kazimah III and were later brought ashore safely in Oman.
The Indian Embassy in Oman said it coordinated the rescue operation with Omani authorities. The mission also thanked Oman for its assistance in ensuring the safe evacuation of the Indian nationals.
The incident involved the MT Kazimah III, a Kuwait-flagged tanker operated by Kuwait Oil Tanker Company. Maritime authorities reported that the vessel was hit by an unidentified projectile while navigating the strategically important waterway.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said a tanker had reported being struck by an unknown projectile east of Oman. The crew was reported safe, and no environmental impact had been reported at the time.
Reports from maritime security sources said the impact triggered a fire on the vessel, following which crew members were evacuated. The exact source of the projectile and responsibility for the incident have not been established.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important maritime routes, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. A significant volume of global oil and gas shipments passes through the waterway.

The latest incident comes amid a series of reports of commercial vessels being hit by unidentified projectiles in and around the Strait. Authorities are continuing to monitor maritime security in the region as investigations into the incidents continue.
