Tehran: Iran has reportedly suspended its planned negotiations with the United States, linking any future dialogue to an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon. The decision comes amid escalating Israeli military operations, which Tehran says undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Iranian state-linked agencies, including Tasnim News Agency and Fars News Agency, reported that talks would not proceed unless Washington ensures a halt to Israeli strikes.
Tehran also rejected reports that an Iranian delegation had arrived in Islamabad for negotiations. Officials described such claims as “false,” directly contradicting earlier media reports suggesting talks were set to begin on April 10.
According to Iranian sources, there are currently no plans to engage with Washington under prevailing conditions, reinforcing the country’s position that diplomacy cannot move forward alongside active conflict.
Iran has made it clear that a ceasefire in Lebanon is a non-negotiable prerequisite. It has accused Israel of continuing attacks despite broader efforts to stabilise the region.
The demand places pressure on the United States, which has been attempting to maintain parallel diplomatic tracks supporting Israel while also engaging Iran to prevent further escalation.
Amid rising tensions, the United States is set to host discussions between Israel and Lebanon in Washington next week. The talks aim to address ceasefire concerns and prevent further deterioration of the situation.

The move follows one of Israel’s heaviest rounds of airstrikes in Lebanon in recent weeks, reportedly causing significant casualties and raising doubts over the durability of a recently announced truce.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pushed for direct engagement with Lebanon, particularly focusing on disarming the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
However, Lebanese officials have indicated that any negotiations would require a prior ceasefire. Neither side has formally confirmed participation in the proposed US-hosted talks.
