Washington: US President Donald Trump described Google CEO Sundar Pichai as a “monster” while praising the tech executive for maintaining a relatively low public profile. President Trump was interacting with reporters at the White House on Tuesday after the lunch with tech executives.
During interaction, Trump turned to Pichai and made the unusual remark, he said, “This guy is a monster, and nobody knows him. What a great life! To be a monster and not have to go through this."
The exchange began when Trump invited Pichai to speak. As the Google CEO started responding, Trump interrupted to emphasise the prominence of the technology leaders gathered at the White House.
“You have no idea who these people are. These are the biggest people in the world. You have no idea who they are," Trump said before turning his attention to Pichai.
Trump then drew attention to the Google chief’s first name, saying, “All you have to know is — SUNDARR! Sundar is his name," he added.
Pichai responded in a light-hearted manner, appearing to play along with Trump’s description. “Hopefully a better tagline than I’m a monster!" he said.
The word “monster” is also sometimes used in corporate and technology commentary to refer to the enormous scale and influence of Alphabet, Google’s parent company.

The exchange took place following a high-profile gathering of technology executives at the White House, where artificial intelligence and related issues were among the subjects under discussion.
The attendees included Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, whose X platform has developed its own artificial intelligence model, Grok.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella were also present at the gathering.
According to a seating chart shared by Trump on Truth Social, Huang was seated to Trump’s right, while Musk was seated to his left.
US Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and House Speaker Mike Johnson also attended the White House lunch.
The exchange between Trump and Pichai stood out from the broader discussions, with the US President’s description of the Google CEO drawing a humorous response from Pichai.
