New Delhi: Making a major statement, US President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States has initiated the process of "clearing" the Strait of Hormuz. According to Trump, this step is being taken in the interest of numerous countries worldwide, with the aim of streamlining global trade—and specifically, oil supplies.

In his statement, Trump noted that this effort is being undertaken not solely for the benefit of the US, but also for major nations such as China, Japan, South Korea, France, and Germany. He framed this initiative as a form of global cooperation, suggesting that it could bring stability to the international market.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz Important?

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime routes. Vast quantities of crude oil are transported from this strait to various parts of the globe. Any disruption to this route has a direct and immediate impact on oil prices and the global economy. Recent tensions and maritime threats have disrupted shipping traffic in this region.

Consequently, securing this route has emerged as a top priority on the international stage. However, until the situation on the ground becomes fully clear, a degree of uncertainty is likely to persist.
