Evian: US President Donald Trump once again heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, highlighting the strong personal rapport between the two leaders.

Trump's remarks echoed his recent description of Modi as “calm,” “cool,” and a “total killer” — a phrase he has used to underline the Indian Prime Minister’s toughness and negotiating skills despite his composed public image.

The meeting marked the first face-to-face interaction between Modi and Trump in more than 16 months. The two leaders exchanged greetings before holding discussions on key issues, including trade, energy cooperation, regional security and broader geopolitical developments.

In recent weeks, Trump has repeatedly praised Modi's leadership. Earlier this month, he congratulated the Prime Minister on becoming India’s longest-serving Prime Minister, calling him a “strong, healthy and wise man” and expressing confidence in his continued success.

Trump has often highlighted his personal connection with Modi, recalling landmark events such as the “Howdy Modi” rally in Houston and describing the Indian leader as someone capable of taking firm and decisive decisions.

Officials said the latest talks come at an important time for India-US relations, with both countries working toward an interim trade agreement while also discussing energy security, visa issues and regional stability.

The Modi-Trump meeting has emerged as one of the most closely watched engagements at the G7 Summit, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between India and the United States as well as the personal chemistry shared by the two leaders.
