Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning against Iran, saying Washington could launch an attack on the heavily protected Pickaxe Mountain underground nuclear facility if intelligence suggests suspicious activity.
Speaking at the Oval Office, Trump said the US military campaign against Iran was aimed at preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. He claimed American action had already stopped Iran from moving closer to developing such capabilities.
“We are five months into this, and they are not going to have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said while addressing reporters.
Trump revealed that American intelligence agencies are closely tracking movements around the underground complex near Iran’s damaged Natanz uranium enrichment facility.
“We know everybody moving at Pickaxe, we know everybody moving everywhere in Iran. If anything goes wrong, we hit them hard,” he said.
Pickaxe Mountain is considered one of Iran’s most secure nuclear-related locations, with deeply buried tunnel systems designed to withstand conventional attacks. Reports have suggested that Iran may have shifted advanced centrifuges to the facility to protect them from possible strikes.
The latest warning comes days after American forces carried out strikes on Iranian military-linked targets. According to US officials, operations targeted air defence systems, radar installations, maritime assets and communication facilities linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iran has strongly condemned the attacks, accusing Washington of violating its sovereignty and targeting Iranian territory. Tehran has claimed it responded with defensive strikes against US military positions in the region.
Trump also claimed that US intervention prevented a wider conflict involving Israel and other Middle Eastern countries. He warned that allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons could create a larger security threat for the region and beyond.
The latest remarks have increased concerns over a possible escalation between Washington and Tehran, with the underground nuclear facility emerging as a potential flashpoint.
