New Delhi: A 55-year-old man died after being bitten by a dog during a street altercation in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Police have arrested the dog owner on suspicion of murder and other charges related to owning a dangerously uncontrolled dog.
According to a BBC report, police were called at around 1:30 PM BST on Saturday following reports of a fight near Blacker Lane, Calder Grove, Wakefield, close to a disused railway line.
The injured man was rushed to hospital in critical condition. However, he later died after 7 PM on the same day.
Authorities arrested a man on suspicion of murder and for allegedly being the owner of a dangerously out-of-control dog in a public place that caused injury. The suspect remains in police custody.
Police have seized a German Shepherd believed to have been involved in the incident as part of the ongoing investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Michael Cox said that two people, including a woman named Sophie, tried to help the injured man after the attack.
Expressing concern over the incident, DCI Cox said that it was important for investigators to understand the complete sequence of events leading to the man’s death. He appealed to the two people who assisted the victim, as well as any witnesses, to come forward and provide information.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal dog attack and street fight.
