Sanna: A woman was killed and a man wounded late Friday night when a U.S. airstrike struck a house in Yemen's northern Saada province, according to Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.
The strike targeted a home in the Sahar district, and the Houthi television reported that a total of 32 U.S. airstrikes hit several locations across northern Yemen throughout the day.
No additional casualties were reported.
Tensions Between Houthi And US
Tensions between the Houthi group and the US military have sharply risen since Washington resumed airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen on March 15. The strikes were intended to deter the Houthis from targeting Israel and international shipping in the Red and Arabian Seas.
On Friday, the Houthi group claimed that US warplanes had carried out over 1,200 air raids on Yemen since mid-March, causing hundreds of civilian casualties and extensive damage to infrastructure.
Earlier US Strike On Yemen
Earlier US air strikes on Ras Isa oil port in Yemen have killed at least 80 people in what is one of the deadliest attacks on the country by US forces, according to the Houthi rebels who are in control of the territory.
The Health Office said that the death toll late on Friday was 80 and 150 people were also wounded in the strikes that were carried out on Thursday.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the air strikes were intended to cut off the Houthis’ source of fuel and revenue.
“Today, US forces took action to eliminate this source of fuel for the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists,” CENTCOM said on Thursday in a post on social media. “The objective of these strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis.”
The US air strikes hit several different areas, but were most concentrated around the port facility.
The air raids took employees by surprise, he said, including truck drivers who were on the scene at the time.
The attack drew widespread condemnation across Yemen due to the civilian deaths and the strategic importance of Ras Isa, al-Attab added
Following the strikes, the Houthis announced missile attacks on sites in Israel and two US aircraft carriers. Israel’s military said earlier on Friday that it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen.
