Talks underway between US and Iran for a 45-Day ceasefire!
Tehran: Discussions are currently underway between the United States and Iran regarding a 45-day ceasefire. Concurrently, proposals are being floated to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Countries such as Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are acting as mediators to facilitate this agreement. Two officials from the Middle East provided this information.
If this agreement to halt hostilities for 45 days proves successful, it could potentially pave the way for a complete cessation of conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran in the future. The conflict involving Iran began on February 28, and tensions have persisted across the Middle East ever since.
Officials stated that this proposal was conveyed late Sunday night to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Steve Witkoff, the US envoy to the Middle East; however, neither country has issued a response to it thus far.
The officials provided this information on the condition of anonymity, as they were discussing private diplomatic negotiations. Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether both parties will ultimately accept these terms.
Iran maintains that it will continue fighting until it receives financial reparations and assurances that it will not face future attacks. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has issued threats this week to bomb Iranian bridges and power plants.
The details regarding the terms of this proposal were first reported by the news website Axios.
