Pentagon Orders Army Chief Randy George to Step Down With Immediate Effect
Washington: Amid rising tensions with Iran in West Asia, the United States has made a major change to its military structure. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has directed Army Chief General Randy George to resign with immediate effect. The Pentagon confirmed this, although no clear reason has been provided for the decision. This move comes at a time when the US and Israel are continuously carrying out military action against Iran.

General Randy George has served as Chief of Staff of the US Army since August 2023, and his tenure is normally four years, meaning it will continue until 2027. He is a seasoned officer who participated in key operations such as the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed his removal, praising his service, but also said that the time had come for a leadership change in the military.

Following Randy George's departure, Christopher LaNeve has been appointed interim Chief of Staff. LaNeve previously held the position of Vice Chief and led the 82nd Airborne Division. The Pentagon described him as an experienced and trusted officer, saying he is capable of leading the military under the current circumstances.
This is not the first major change in the US military since Donald Trump's re-election. Defense Secretary Hegseth has already removed several senior officers, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff C.Q. Brown and Navy Chief Lisa Franchetti. In total, more than a dozen top military officials have been replaced.
Iran Conflict Nearing End? Trump’s Bold Claims Raise Questions
Meanwhile, the US has intensified its military activities in West Asia. Thousands of troops, including paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division, are being deployed to the region. However, it is not yet clear whether the US will launch a ground war against Iran. President Trump has hinted that more stringent action against Iran could be taken in the coming weeks.
President Trump's recent statement, in which he called for Iran to be sent "back to the Stone Age," has sparked international controversy. Iran reacted strongly at the United Nations, stating that the statement reflects ignorance, not strength. This threatens to further escalate tensions in the region.
