US to attack on Iran over protest crackdown?
Tehran/Washington: Over 200 people killed and about 2300 detained since the brutality on protesters by the Iranian government has begun. However eyewitnesses say the number of dead is much higher.
According to some media reports a "pile of bodies" was seen in a hospital in Tehran. Protesters of all ages could be seen in the capital. Security forces, wielding military rifles, killed "many people" on Friday night.
These protests in Iran began on December 28 and have now spread to more than 100 cities. Because the protests are at a dangerous level, with thousands of people on the streets, the government is finding it difficult to suppress the voices of the protesters.
US Considers Attack On Iran
Meanwhile, some media reports say that the Trump administration is working on initial plans for an attack on Iran.
This includes the option of large-scale airstrikes on several locations in Iran. The Trump administration is also considering which locations in Iran to target.
The report states that a large-scale air campaign against several Iranian military bases is one option being considered. However, Washington has not yet agreed on any action plan.
Insiders said that no military equipment or personnel have been deployed for a potential attack. The report also states that "the discussions do not necessarily mean the US will attack; sources said this planning is routine."
However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that the US supports the Iranian people. On the other hand, President Donald Trump reiterated his threat on Friday that he would attack Iran if Iranian security forces killed protesters.
In a recent statement, Trump also said he is ready to help the protests in Iran aimed at ousting the Khamenei government.
Post By Trump
Donald Trump hinted in a post on Truth Social that "if Tehran continues to kill protesters, the US is preparing to retaliate."
He wrote on Saturday that "Iran is looking for freedom and perhaps the biggest protests ever seen." He further added, "The US is ready to help!!!"
The US previously attacked Iran last June, dropping six bunker-buster bombs on three of Iran's underground nuclear sites.
Iran has now begun to acknowledge that its nuclear sites were severely damaged in the US attack.
