US Court blocks Trump order
Washington DC: A US Federal Judge has blocked the Trump administration's move to revoke international student visas. This verdict has given relief to thousands of students studying in the US.
This Court order has come just Harvard University lost its Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification.
In fact, the Federal Judge has blocked an attempt by the Trump administration to revoke visas and deport thousands of foreign students enrolled in American universities.
The verdict was delivered on 22 May by Judge Jeffrey White of the Northern District of California.
Earlier on the same day the department of Homeland Security (DHS) suddenly revoked Harvard University's certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Programme (SEVP).
This decision of the DHS would have taken away the university authority to enrol international students which could prove a serious blow to the institution’s global academic programme.
Judge White, in his verdict, said that US administration has "wreaked havoc" on the lives of the plaintiffs and international students.
In the meanwhile, many international students have also challenged the Trump administration individually, securing their own stay in the country. However the injunction to the Trump order by Judge White is a great relief to foreign students.
