Washington: A serious crisis is reportedly emerging aboard the US Navy’s aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, where multiple sailors have allegedly attempted to jump overboard as an extended deployment linked to the Iran conflict puts increasing pressure on the crew.
The aircraft carrier, carrying nearly 5,000 sailors and Marines, has spent around nine months at sea, including approximately 250 consecutive days without a port visit. The unusually long deployment has raised concerns about the mental health and wellbeing of personnel serving onboard.

Another family member said her husband had attempted to go overboard after repeated extensions of his deployment. She claimed he was struggling with the fear that a mental health crisis could affect his long military career.
The USS Abraham Lincoln’s mission was originally planned for a shorter duration but was extended amid continuing tensions and military operations connected to Iran.
Families have raised concerns over the impact of spending months away from home, limited opportunities to return to shore and the demanding conditions faced by sailors aboard the carrier.
Reports have also mentioned complaints about onboard facilities, including maintenance problems, shortages of essential supplies, food concerns and hygiene-related issues.
The concerns have drawn attention from US lawmakers, who have called for better support for deployed personnel.
Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao and senior officials attended a town hall meeting in San Diego where families expressed their concerns and demanded answers about the mental health challenges faced by sailors.
The Navy has stated that support systems, including medical teams, counselors and chaplains, are available for service members and that leadership continues to monitor the situation.
