New Delhi: A major theft occurred on Sunday at the Louvre Museum, one of the most famous museums in Paris, the capital of France. The thieves carried out the theft with the help of a disc cutter and escaped with the museum's priceless jewels in just seven minutes. Museums have a long history of theft. Here, we will tell you about some museums where major thefts have occurred.

In fact, the famous Louvre Museum in Paris has a long history of theft. Previously, in 1911, its most famous artwork, Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, was stolen by a former employee. It was recovered two years later.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston (1990)
In 1990, two thieves disguised as police officers committed a theft at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, USA. During this period, thieves stole 13 masterpieces, including works by Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Degas. None of these works were recovered.

Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam (2002)
Thiefs scaled the wall and broke a window at a museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and stole two early paintings by Vincent van Gogh, "View of the Sea at Scheveningen" and "Congregation Leaving the Reformed Church in Nuenen." However, the paintings were recovered in Italy in 2016, 14 years later.

National Gallery, Norway (1994)
Edvard Munch's painting "The Scream" was stolen from the National Gallery of Norway, and the thieves demanded a ransom of one million dollars. However, the painting was recovered three months after the theft. However, a second version was stolen in 2004 and recovered in 2006.

Green Vault, Dresden (2019)
Thieves broke into the Grünes Gewölbe (Green Vault) museum in Dresden, Germany, and stole 21 18th-century jewels valued at over 98 million euros. The theft also included diamonds and other precious stones.

Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Heist (1972)
Thieves stole 18 paintings, including a Rembrandt, from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. They entered the museum through a skylight and fled in a truck. Only one painting has ever been recovered.

Dulwich Picture Gallery, London (1966-1983)
Between 1966 and 1983, Rembrandt's portrait of Jacob de Ghent III was stolen four times in 17 years from London's Dulwich Picture Gallery, but was recovered each time.

Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester (2003)
Three watercolors by Van Gogh, Picasso, and Gauguin were stolen from the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, UK. However, two of the paintings were recovered from a public toilet.

Musée d'Art Moderne, Paris (2010)
In 2010, Vjeran Tomic, nicknamed "Spider-Man," broke into the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris and stole five works, including paintings by Matisse and Modigliani. These works have still not been recovered.

Mohamed Khalil Museum, Cairo (1977 and 2010)
Van Gogh's painting, "Poppy Flowers," has been stolen twice from the Mohamed Khalil Museum in Cairo. The first theft occurred in 1977, and the painting was recovered 10 years later. In 2010, it was stolen again and remains missing.

Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (2000)
In 2000, a thief entered the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, UK, through a skylight and stole Sejanus' View of Auvers-sur-Oise in less than 10 minutes.
