New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on a cognitive screening test during his latest medical examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, according to a White House health report.
The medical evaluation, conducted on 26 May, included a cognitive assessment using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a widely used screening tool designed to evaluate memory, attention, language and other mental functions. Trump reportedly completed the test for the fourth time and achieved a full score.
The White House physician stated that the president’s results were within normal limits and indicated “normal mental status,” adding that he remains fully fit to carry out his duties.
The MoCA test was developed in the early 2000s by Canadian neurologist Dr Ziad Nasreddine. It is a 30-point, 10-minute screening tool used to detect early signs of mild cognitive impairment.
It assesses several areas of brain function, including short-term memory recall, visuospatial skills, executive function, language, concentration, abstraction, and orientation.
Tasks in the test include drawing a clock at a specified time, copying geometric shapes, recalling word lists, repeating number sequences, and identifying similarities between concepts. A score of 26 or above is generally considered normal.
Along with cognitive results, the report noted Trump’s overall physical condition as “excellent,” citing stable cardiac, respiratory and neurological health. The report also mentioned ongoing monitoring of weight and lifestyle, with doctors advising increased physical activity and dietary management.
Trump, who is 6ft 3in tall, reportedly weighs 238 pounds, an increase from the previous year. The physician also noted mild improvement in lower leg swelling linked to chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition among older adults.
Medical experts stress that while the MoCA is useful for identifying early cognitive decline, it is not an intelligence test and does not measure overall intellect. A perfect score indicates normal cognitive functioning at the time of testing but does not predict long-term outcomes.
The results have renewed public attention on the health and cognitive fitness of aging political leaders, particularly in high-responsibility roles such as the US presidency.
