Jammu: At least two persons were killed and six others suffered injuries in a mishap on the Bani-Basohli road in Bani tehsil of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
Police said that a cab met with an accident and rolled down on the road on the Bani-Basohli road, in which eight persons suffered injuries.
"Two people were killed and six others, including a female, were injured," they said, adding that with the help of locals and police, the injured were rushed to the nearby hospital, and out of them, a teenager was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital Kathua.
A month ago on 4 May at least three soldiers lost their lives after an army vehicle fell into a 700-foot-deep gorge in Ramban district.
The army truck was part of a convoy moving from Jammu to Srinagar along national highway 44 when the accident occurred near Battery Chashma at around 11.30 am.
Police said a joint rescue operation was launched immediately by army, police, SDRF and local volunteers and three soldiers, travelling in the vehicle, were found dead on-the-spot.
The deceased were identified as sepoys Amit Kumar, Sujeet Kumar and Man Bahadur and their bodies are being retrieved from the gorge, the officials said, adding the crash reduced the vehicle into a mangled heap of metal.
In March at least three persons were killed and another 10 injured in a mini-bus accident near Mahore. The critically injured passengers were rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Paramvir Singh said that the accident occured in Gangot near Mahore. He said that the tempo traveller was going to Sanglikot from Jammu when the accident occured.
The rescue teams were rushed to the spot for relief operations.
The injured were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment, added Singh.
The cause of the accident is not yet known. Further investigation is going on.
Last year, in September 2024, a bus carrying Border Security Force (BSF) personnel for election duty met a fatal accident in J&K's Budgam district, claiming the lives of 4 BSF troopers, while 28 others sustained injuries.
According to media reports, the bus was carrying 35 BSF jawans for election duty for the second phase of Assembly polls. The second phase of Assembly elections will be held on September 25. The accident took place in the Brell Waterhail area.
